Have you heard the joke about the player and the manager who are looking at what club they're going to play for in 2008???? This is the biggest joke going around in the two football codes in Australia and yet there is two weeks before the 2007 season even kicks off. Unlike previous years where the Sun Herald, Daily Telegraph and the Rugby League Week would be profiling which clubs would take out the wooden spoon or win the premiership, this season since the anit-tampering deadline has been dropped all articles are focusing on the players and managers who are testing the market. In the last two weeks the media have recorded all the discussions that the Canterbury Bulldogs have had with star forwards Mark O'Meley and young Super star Sonny Bill Williams. So whats the problem you ask??? It has created a circus that is leading to players such as O'Meley looking to walkout on their clubs and sign with another before the compeition even begins. The Bulldogs who are at the centre of this debacle where recently thrashed by the Warriors with Steve Folkes coach of the bulldogs and star forward Willie Mason noting that it is the current player contracts and futures that is the cause for their recent bad form. Looking across at rugby union and we see Lote Tuqiri currently having his worst season to date who is also currently in contract negotiations. In today’s Daily Telegraph Tuqiri, Australians most exciting player admitted that he feels his bad form has been to the mounting pressure of which club to sign with. So how do we stop this circus they call the player transfer window and how do we get players minds back on the game?? I personally feel that they should never have dropped the anti tampering deadline? Any ideas how we stem this problem????
